Advocacy group questions the lack of progress on the Child Tax Credit

Of all the programme introduced during the pandemic to help Americans deal with the financial consequences of covid-19, few were as instantly effective as the Child Tax Credit expansion. A provision in the American Rescue Plan saw the size of the credit nearly double, and the support sent out in the form of monthly direct payments to eligible families. 

However Congress failed to expand the programme beyond its initial one-year duration, with many Republicans in Washington arguing that the programme was too expensive. Advocacy group Next Gen America compares it the the United States’ vast military budget.
