SOUTHWICK — Finance Committee Chair Joseph Deedy wants the committee to take a more active approach with “wellness checks” on the current year’s town budget to see what departments may need or not need before the June 30 end of the fiscal year.
The Finance Committee began its first discussions on the framework for the fiscal 2024 budget Monday evening. During the meeting, Deedy said that he wanted the Finance Committee, which he said is “the steward of the town’s money,” to take a stronger role in supervising departmental budgets during a fiscal year.
“As the Finance Committee, I think we should be looking at all of this,” said Deedy. “We have to do a wellness check of the town’s finances.”
