LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A recent grant that will provide $15,000 to Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana serving Greater Lafayette means a secure future for the nonprofit’s JA Finance Park Program.
Junior Achievement is a nonprofit that hosts branches across the nation. According to its website, “Junior Achievement’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed…Preparation involves our proven lessons that promote financial capability, work and career readiness, and business ownership.”
The JA Finance Park is a program through JA that teaches participants ages K-25 financial planning, budgeting, and business decisions. This program is provided through JA of Northern Indiana in Greater Lafayette for free. The availability of no-cost tuition of this program is now further secured by a recent grant from Horizon Bank for $15,000 over the next three years.
“We have fourteen different store fronts (in the JA Finance Park training) and we had a spot open in our finance park program for a mortgage category,” Jennifer Edwards, director of Junior Achievement serving Greater Lafayette, told the Journal & Courier, “because, every student that goes through finance park through the scenario, they have to apply for a mortgage for housing.
