African law firm Bowmans has appointed a project development and finance partner in Johannesburg, as it continues its expansion in the South African capital.
Allen Leuta joins the firm’s Johannesburg project finance practice, the firm said in a statement.
For the past six months, Leuta was consulting to the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation institution, prior to which he was a director – the local equivalent of a partner – at Allen & Overy for six years and head of projects, according to the announcement.
Prior to that he headed the Africa legal department of top South African bank Standard Bank, which he joined after working his first three-year stint at A&O in London and Paris in the firms banking practice.
Bowmans’ name has been seen frequently on the South African hiring market in recent months, having made a double-hire in October, and launching a new practice in May.
Ezra Davids, Bowmans chairman and senior partner, said: “Allen’s project finance, leveraged finance and foreign lending expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa will be of great value to Bowmans, our clients and our people.”
